Eilean Donan Castle, Scotland

Posted by ChopprJock

During a recent trip to the Scottish Highlands, Kyle and I had the opportunity to tour many beautiful castle ruins. This magnificent structure is in Dornie by Kyle of Lochalsh, and boasts a very colorful past. Through most of its history the castle was held by the Mackenzie clan, whose Chieftan was the self-proclaimed Lord of The Isles. The Macrae clan was aligned with the Mackenzies and served as Constables, garrisoned in the Castle. The present building was restored in the early 20th Century by the Macraes, who own the Castle today. For you movie buffs, this castle has appeared in Highlander (1985), Loch Ness (1995), and The World is Not Enough (1999).

Kyle took this picture with her trusty Sony DSC100 and, I think, perfectly captured the poignant beauty of the Castle, impervious to assault from the typical Scottish weather.

Hi Lynn

The picture looks great. I would be interested in any pictures you have that are somewhat historic. I will show them to my geography and history classes. Your dad showed me some you had sent him. You have seen a lot of places.
I will check in every couple of days and see what you have. Have a great time and hope to see you soon.

By the way, hope to get a chance to meet Kyle sometime.
